Act One — The Rivalry
They met at film school the way all great rivals do: at an awards ceremony, applauding through gritted teeth. Marcus took the jury prize. Priya took the audience award. Neither took it well.
For years the scoreboard see-sawed across festival circuits — his thriller edged out her documentary, her short buried his feature, and somewhere between the Q&As and the shared popcorn budgets, the rivalry started looking suspiciously like a very long first date.
Then Priya went for the win no jury could overturn. At a midnight screening in Singapore, mid-credits, before "directed by" had even faded — she proposed. Marcus, for once in his life, had no notes.
"She stole the ending. He gave her the whole film."
